Hey, I’m Adrian.

I write about technology. I build my own apps.

I’ve been writing code professionally for over 17 years. I do it for a living, then go home and build my own apps because apparently I haven’t had enough. I also write about technology, how it affects our lives, and why everything seems to need a subscription these days.

Respectware

Good software shouldn’t treat you like an ATM.

Respectware is my response to where the software industry seems to be heading. More subscriptions, more data collection, more tricks to keep people hooked. I’d rather do things a little differently.

I have nothing against making money from software. I want my apps to make money too. I just think it’s possible without pushing yet another subscription or treating people’s patience as an unlimited resource.

  • Not everything needs a subscription. If an app doesn’t have ongoing costs, I’m not going to invent some just to charge you monthly.
  • Your data isn’t my merchandise.I don’t collect information just in case I figure out how to profit from it someday.
  • I won’t take you for a fool.No hidden cancellation options, misleading buttons, or other cheap tricks.
  • You have better things to do.An app should help you get something done, not compete for every minute of your attention.

My apps

I tinker with my own projects after hours. Some are already out in the wild, others are still taking shape. Here you’ll find the ones you can actually use.

Masto Don't

Available

I like Mastodon, but its interface never quite worked for me. So I built my own. Classic columns, easier navigation, and a few things I felt were missing from the original.

A bit about me

I’m a developer, and I’ve been building things for the web for over 17 years. I started with websites and now build apps too. I still enjoy it, even though the tech industry occasionally seems determined to change that.

This is where I share what I’m working on, write about technology, and pass along a few things I’ve learned over the years. I’m not always right, and I’m not going to pretend otherwise. If you see things differently, feel free to get in touch.
